PREVENTION SPECIALIST

Prevention Specialist advances the mission of the Rape Recovery Center to educate the community about the cause, impact, and prevention of sexual violence. The Prevention Specialist reduces risk factors and improves protective factors for sexual violence victimization. The Prevention Specialist leads and works with the Community Engagement Director to recruit and engage youth, parents, and men and boys in prevention programming through responding and facilitating prevention workshops and supporting the Peer Advocacy Council (PAC), Let’s Talk Program, and prevention awareness campaigns.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with full benefits, hourly position of $19.00 - $21.66 DOE, with a primary Monday to Friday schedule, some evenings and weekends as scheduled. Reports To: Community Engagement Director

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement and recruit for Peer Advocacy Council (PAC) and the Let’s Talk Program through the lens of primary prevention utilizing engaging and appropriate curriculum and activities.
  • Co-facilitate the Peer Advocacy Council (PAC) meetings twice a month (The first and third Thursday of each month from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, in-person)
  • Facilitate, recruit, and implement the Let’s Talk Program once per quarter.
  • Respond to and facilitate two weekly prevention workshops for youth, parents, and men and boys.
  • Increase protective factors of developing community support and connectedness in program participants.
  • Attend weekly supervision meetings, bi-weekly team meetings, and all staff meetings once per month.
  • Adhere to contract goals and grant objectives, and submit accurate and comprehensive documentation within 24 hours of the service provided.
  • Create and maintain safety and boundaries with youth, clients, participants, and partners. In addition, serve as the point of contact and maintain active communication with program participants.
  • Periodically evaluate curriculum and activities for cultural and developmental appropriateness, inclusivity, accuracy, recent research, and changes in best practices.
  • Provide immediate referrals and support while representing the Rape Recovery Center in public programming.
  • Attend meetings and training to ensure that services and current skill set align with Utah Rape Crisis Center Standards of Care, public health model and are evidence-based.
  • Communicate and collaborate promptly and consistently around trends, needs, gaps, or data with the Community Engagement Director.
  • Implement appropriate assessments for all prevention programming.
  • Represent the Rape Recovery Center with a professional image and manner.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR 4 years experience in public health prevention OR an equivalent combination of practical and academic experience
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Ability to work well with—and inspire confidence in—with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellence in balancing various responsibilities
  • Demonstrated project management, public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • **Bilingual in English & Spanish **

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of the micro, mezzo, and macro impact of sexual violence
  • Experience with public health, engagement, and working with disproportionately impacted populations (i.e., LGBTQI+, Unhoused, Undocumented Immigrants, Black, Indigenous, and other Persons of Color)
  • Experience working at a non-profit.
  • Public speaking and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of Salt Lake County or Tooele-based resources and partnerships

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT OFFER

  • The employee must complete all new hire paperwork by the end of the day on the first workday.
  • The employee must complete a criminal background check.
    • Employees/Staff Members of the RRC can only be alone with clients once the background check is received and reviewed for risk.
  • The employee must obtain a 40-hour crisis counselor certification and submit it within 120 days.
  • The employee agrees to a probationary period of 90 days from the first day of working in their new position. After 90 days, the employee will receive a detailed evaluation of their progress.

MOBILE RESPONSE TEAM ADVOCATE

The Mobile Response Team Advocate will provide direct services to survivors of sexual violence through advocacy and crisis intervention as part of a mobile response team. The ideal candidate has experience in human services and working with clients from various cultural and identity groups. This job requires a person who works well independently with excellent crisis management skills. Applicants with crisis response experience and a strong understanding and/or interest in social justice are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide victim advocacy and refferrals to survivors of sexual violence during medical forensic exams and advocacy cases in Salt Lake County hospitals and clinics.
  • Be mindfully present and work to understand each client’s individual needs and assist them accordingly. This includes remaining at the hospital for the duration of the Code-R medical forensic exam and assisting with any housing and transportation needs.
  • Represent the Rape Recovery Center with a professional image and manner when working with clients and when interacting with medical and law enforcement personnel.
  • Build collaborative relationships with RRC staff, volunteers, and community partners, as well as members of the community.
  • Attend monthly Mobile Response Team staff meetings and required individual supervisions.
  • Attend the annual Mobile Response Team staff retreat.
  • Respond to work communications within 2-business days.

Conditions of Employment Offer

  • Employee must complete and pass a criminal background check.
  • Employee must obtain a 40-hour crisis counselor certification within 90-days of employment (If you have already taken this training through UCASA it will be accepted). The Rape Recovery Center cannot compensate (hourly office rate) for the training.
  • Employee must complete all new hire paperwork provided to them by the end of the day on the first day of employment.
  • Employee must agree to a probationary period of 90-days from the start of employment. After 90-days the employee will receive a detailed evaluation of their progress.

Position Details This is a Non-exempt Part-Time Position: 24 hours on-call per week (six, four-hour shifts). Wage is $5.00 on-call, $17.00 office time (meetings, training time, email upkeep, etc), $21.16 for all direct client services provided (once fully trained). The Rape Recovery Center offers a telehealth benefit for MRT advocates and time and half pay for holidays worked.
